Hiring a new member of staff is not always an easy thing to do, but when you are hiring for a specialist position such as a printer technician job, you do need to take extra care to make sure you get the right member of staff.

The most obvious thing that you will be looking for when you first look through the applications that you have received is to check out the qualifications to all of your candidates.  Unfortunately with the qualifications for printer technicians, there isn't an industry standard qualification, so you will often have to check up on the history of each qualification and find out what each one qualifies the candidate for.

You will also need to have a look at the experience that each candidate can demonstrate.  Of course, in a perfect world, one of your candidates would already have the experience of working in the printer technician job you are hiring for. But often, this won't be the case, and you will be judging based on their past experience about which candidates have the experience that will stand them in good stead to fulfil the role they are applying for.

Hopefully, at least some of the candidates will have had some experience of working with printers beyond their educational experience.  The more that they have working with different types of printers, the more they will have a better idea of how varying types of printers will work.  This can often be beneficial and give them more chance of being successful at the printer technician job.

Of course, the most important aspect of any recruitment process is the interview, as it will usually help you filter the candidates as to which ones will be the most adept at fitting in to your organisation, and being effective at the role.  If you have any printer technicians already on the staff that your new technician would be subordinate to, having a specialist in on the interview would certainly help in learning if they have the knowledge to fulfil the role.

Ultimately, one of the most important aspects that you will be looking for is someone who has both the knowledge and reliability to fulfil the printer technician job, and by knowing what to look out for, it will help you find somebody to fill that job.
