Acting schools in New York Danielle Ryan found herself debating a question with her father several years ago when she was back home here on vacation: Why didn’t Ireland, with its rich theatrical bloodlines and population of six million people, have an acting school on a par with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where she and other promising Irish artists had migrated to train in recent decades?

All the New York acting coaches are affiliated to official theaters and acting stages, thus the students can practice and perform. One of example is Circle in the Square Broadway Theater in New York. It helps to become a good stage actors. Several schools are offering film acting such as The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and New York Film Academy. Cathal Ryan had no easy answers for his daughter, but he had the resources to do something about it.

You're right that if you truly want to succeed as an actor, you'll need to get excellent training. There's nothing wrong with getting a good liberal arts education at a school that also offers acting classes, but if you really want to immerse yourself in training, then you'll want to attend one of the leading drama programs in the country.

Now being a peace loving writer, I certainly shan't argue about which one of those is true and which one isn't. But if you're a thespian in search for good acting schools, then you certainly won't care about that. But you'd naturally care about the list that I'm about to provide below.

As co-founders of the European airline Ryanair, the Ryan family is one of the wealthiest in Ireland, and the two Ryans began talks with an Irish university near Dublin about forming an acting conservatory. That plan fell apart in 2007, just before Mr. Ryan’s death. But Ms. Ryan pressed on, with millions of euros from her father’s will, and struck a pact — relatively unusual for Ireland — to mix private and public monies to create the new National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin. The school, also known as the Lir, is set to open on Sept. 19 with its first class of 15 acting students.
